A QR code on product packaging that belongs on the label

A QR code on product packaging connects a physical product to everything that does not fit on the box: instructions, ingredients, recipes, warranty registration, a reorder page. QRPetal makes the code out of your own label artwork, so it sits naturally in the design instead of breaking it.

Packaging is printed once, used for years

Boxes, bottles and labels are printed in large runs and sit on shelves and in cupboards for a long time. That is why an editable code makes sense on packaging:

  • Your website structure will change. The printed code keeps working because you can point it at the new page.
  • You can switch the destination with the season: a summer recipe, then a winter one.
  • Scan counts show which products people actually engage with.

And because QRPetal codes never expire, a customer who scans a jar at the back of the cupboard three years from now still reaches your page, even if you have changed plans.

Design tips for labels

  • Curved surfaces distort the code. On a bottle or a can, keep the code small relative to the curve, or place it on a flat panel. Test it on the real object.
  • Round dots and soft textures often suit packaging art. Try the Round dots style and check the scan score.
  • Keep the quiet border. The plain margin around the code is part of the code; do not let a die-cut or seam run through it.
  • Mind the ink. The code needs clear dark-and-light contrast. Dark code on a light background is the safe choice. Metallic inks and clear windows can make codes unreadable.

Size

A product is usually scanned from close up, so 2.5 to 3 cm is a common minimum on labels. Shorter links make bigger, more robust dots, which helps a lot on small labels; editable codes are always short. See how big a printed QR code should be.

Before a production run

Ask your printer for a physical proof on the real material. Scan it with several phones, in shop lighting, from the distance a shopper would hold it. Only then sign off the run. Our two-reader check is a good first test, but nothing replaces the real object.

Make your product packaging QR code

Start with your own photo. Every code is checked by two QR readers before you download it.
