A Wi-Fi QR code lets guests join your network by pointing their camera at it, with no password typing. It is perfect for cafés, holiday rentals, offices and the fridge door at home.

A simple Wi-Fi form (network name, password, security type) is on our roadmap, together with contact cards, email and SMS codes. We have not built it yet, and we would rather say so than show you a half-working page.

You can make one today

Wi-Fi QR codes use a standard text format that phone cameras understand. QRPetal’s editor accepts any text, so you can type it yourself:

WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetworkName;P:YourPassword;;

• T is the security type: WPA (also for WPA2/WPA3), WEP, or nopass for an open network.
• S is the network name and P is the password.
• If your name or password contains \, ;, ,, : or ", put a backslash in front of that character.

Paste the line into the editor’s text box, add a photo of your café or home, and check the scan score. Then test it: scan it with your phone and make sure it offers to join the right network.

Good to know

• A Wi-Fi code is always a static code. The phone reads the details directly and never visits a web address, so it cannot be edited later or counted. If you change your password, make a new code.
• Anyone who can see the code can join your network. For a business, consider a separate guest network.
